Dramatic Club Notes - September 2009
As a tribute to the great playwright Hugh Leonard who passed away in February of this year, Dungarvan Dramatic have decided to perform 'The Last of The Last of the Mohicans' at the Townhall Theatre, Dungarvan from the 17th to 20th November 2009
Rehearsals are well under way, under the superb Direction of Mary Kelly, whose most recent work includes 'Same Old Moon' and 'Breezeblock Park'. Both plays were performed to huge audiences and we are sure this performance will be no different!
The plot unfolds as Dominick (Ruaidhri Du Paor), having packed off his wife Ita (Caroline O'Connor) on retreat to an obscure saint's shrine, is poised to enjoy an adulterous affair with sexy Grace Lamb (Emma Walsh).Grace arrives, followed by Dominick's wife, followed by Grace's husband - a formidable Aer Lingus pilot Seamus (Morgan O'Connell). Eventually the evening is resolved amicably although not quite how Dominick intended. And all the while poor old Finbar (Con O'Sullivan) is running about the house with only one sock and one shoe.
There is a 'huge' leprechaun in the lavatory and a gentleman flashing... all in one night in, one house, this show should and must not be missed!! The production could not go on without a dedicated crew to construct the set. With numerous set backs Ned Cullinane headed a team in building a set that any professional theatre company would be proud of. Dungarvan Dramatic Club can now boast the sets are as magnificent as the performance. Recognition must go to Ned and his team Kieran Bulfin, John Collender, Johnnny Cuddihy, John Hammond, Morgan O'Connell and Pat Power who worked tirelessly to ensure the set was ready for this weeks performance.
